Midland, TX- Nothing says America like hotdogs, apple pie, and baseball. The Midland Rockhounds baseball team held a military appreciation weekend to honor all of those that have served in the past and those that are currently serving.
Friday’s events were the prelude to a fun filled weekend of patriotic festivities that included a picnic for the families followed by a wonderful pre-game salute to colors by the young Marines. The ballgame was a salute from the first pitch as the Midland team sported some nice-looking military style jerseys.
What I enjoyed most about attending this event was seeing the kids in attendance. Military families value time as much as any other just because time is so limited. As a nation still at war with global terror, service members know that family time is so very important simply because you never know when the call will come for you to take your turn on the front lines. There is no better way to spend an evening out with kiddos than a baseball game.
Might have noticed that I don’t include much by way of reporting the game and its results in this blog post. Well, for me it just wasn’t relevant. This trip to Midland wasn’t about baseball as much as it was about showing support to an organization that devoted an entire weekend to showing its appreciation to our nation’s finest. The truth is I have never had a bad trip to the ballpark in Midland. The people that work in this organization have always been very kind and the ballpark staff are as nice as they come in baseball. From personal experiences at other parks, I can say that Security Bank park is one the fan friendliest parks I have ever been to.
I would like to extend a thank you to the Midland Rockhounds staff for a fantastic trip and for everything that you did to make this weekend possible for the men and women that have sacrificed so much so that this land continues to be the land of the free.
